Individual Response to "High Muck a Muck"

The Electronic Poem “High Muck a Muck” gives the readers an experience to see the historical side of Chinese immigration to British Columbia, Canada.  I thoroughly enjoyed this piece not only because of the deep poet meanings in the literature aspect, but also the interaction it gave me as a reader to explore the historical background of the earlier Chinese immigration process.  E-poetry was a new experience to me and after reading this particular piece, I am really looking forward to viewing more types of E-poetry.  As technology continues to manipulate society, electronic poetry will always be relevant and will continue to grow in popularity.

E-Poetry is determined as any type of poem that is distributed for anyone to view electronically.  It can be viewed on blogs, social media, websites, etc.  E-Poetry is helping progress of literature because of the amount of access it gives anyone, which allows inspiration for other writers.  I've personally have benefitted from viewing this particular form of Electronic Literature because I am now able to see how other writers shape their works in a grammatical and structural way.  I believe everyone should take advantage of the opportunity to view such magnificent pieces of literature.

In the Electronic Poem, "High Muck a Muck", I was enlightened by especially one particular section of the source.  If you click Victoria, you will see my favorite sayings of the entire reading.  The saying was "To know yourself you must become yourself."  The truth behind this is astounding because to me this means that we not only have to be true to others, we have to be true to ourselves.  I see it very often that people put on an act in order to impress others.  What's the purpose of that?  Who are you?  If there is ever a time where you think you need to change in order to fit in then the crowd you're trying to impress isn't worthy of your time.  Always be true to yourself.

Response To Scare Mail

Response to Scare Mail:

After looking at this piece, I was somewhat bothered that such a thing existed, but after looking deeper into it my mindset changed slightly. Scare mail is a website generates emails that tamper with The National Security Agency (NSA). This website creates emails that would be recognized as terrorist threats, which are then picked up by the NSA’s security programs. Once the NSA retrieves the email, they would find out that it is harmless, but it still messes with their computer software.
As I said earlier, when I first opened this page I thought to myself “Why would anyone want to interfere with the NSA?” The NSA is here to protect and defend the US from threats. I said to myself “This website is ridiculous; I cannot believe people would actual do things like this.” I still somewhat believe that, due to my background and personal beliefs. I am a strong advocate for taking action when it comes to preventing crime before it occurs.
When I started to look deeper into this website, I was able to discover what it stands for. It represents individual freedom and privacy. Ultimately, this forced me to reshape my thought process and take a new perspective. This website was not created to simply bully and poke fun at the NSA, but rather to shine light on the fact that government agencies sometimes violate constitutional rights. Even though the constitution says nothing about privacy, it is understood to the majority that we all have an expectation of our individual privacy. Therefore, this website does stand for a powerful and positive message.

With all of this in mind, I still do not think it is the best idea to interfere with those who are responsible for protecting and serving our country. Agencies like the NSA have to deal with people who take extremely dangerous measures to hurt and kill the innocent. The NSA uses Prisim and Xkeyscore to monitor and flag potentially dangerous messages in order to prevent violent terroristic attacks on the United States. Even though their agenda is to protect, this does not give them the right to look inside public files and personal data. Our nation was built on that very principle. We the people have rights that must be held to a standard, or else everything the Constitution stands for is a lie.

Individual Response to E-Poetry.

You may ask your self, what is e-poetry? Well, according to I <3 E -Poetry, electronic poetry
is poetry that arises from an engagement with the possibilities offered by digital media. E-poetry is meant to be interacted with through a digital source. That digital source could be a lap top, computer, tablet or a smart phone. Every type of electronic poetry is extremely different from the next.
Electronic poetry can come in many different forms, whether it being self-generating text or E.E Cummings to tell a story. Each poem that is used is interwoven
hyperlink text. The Sweet Old Etcetera is a hyperlink text that involves a lot of interacting. The Sweet Old Etcetera uses different poems
together to make a landscape. The poems come alive when the reader interacts with each and every one of them.
The Sweet Old Etcetera is a good example of e-poetry. Sweet Old Etcetera is also an example of cold media. There is a lot of interaction involved when reading the piece. Without interaction, the reader would not be able to read the piece at all. As the reader interacts with piece, a landscape forms and the reader is able to interact with the piece even more.
Eventually a sky will become visible and birds will be seen flying behind the tree that is originally formed.
The reader get a greater experience with E.E Cummings' work when interacting with this piece. They are able to see what the poet was seeing when he was writing his poems. The way these different poems are used helps the reader to better understand what the poem actually mean. This allows to poems to have stronger meaning than they would have if they were simply read. E-poetry has drastically change the way artist can make their art. The evolution of all things digital has made it possible to create a whole new genre of art. Because of this new genre, both old and new poems can have a greater impact on the people reading the poems.

Individual Response: e-Poetry

Personally, I have some prior experience reading e-Poetry in some of my English and Literature classes. I haven't had the opportunity to create any of my own works, but I'm really looking forward to doing so! E-Poetry is poetry that arises from an engagement with the possibilities offered by digital media. Digital poetry brings a new age twist to the classic art of pen and paper poetry. Digital poetry is a form of poetry made possible by digital media and technologies. A genre of electronic literature, it is also known as electronic poetry or e-poetry. The technologies that shape digital media are diverse, rapidly evolving, and can be used to such different effects that the term has expanded to encompass a large number of practices.
There are many different types of digital poetry including generative, visual digital, code, kinetic, multimedia, interactive, and hypertext. One of the poems that we read for class caught my eye in particular because it engages the reader and made it fun to follow your own path while reading the poem. That poem was Sydney's Siberia, it was highly interactive. The reader has to click through the pictures to uncover the poem within. I think that the layering of elements in digital poetry is what makes it so appealing to readers.
With the large variety of digital media that is available to us today, I find it hard to just stick to plain text and traditional books. I want to see videos and pictures that spark creative thought. Sometimes reading a text is necessary for school work, but honestly, it bores me. Keeping consumers of information interested in the material is essential. I really think that creating digital works of literature, like e-Poetry, is the future of writing. We are currently in the digital age, and digital poetry is following up on that trend.

A Response to Electronic Literature

png.png        What is electronic literature? According to the Electronic Literature Organization, electronic literature, or e-lit, refers to works with important literary aspects that take advantage of the capabilities and contexts provided by the stand-alone or networked computer. So in layman's terms, it is any work of literature that uses a computer to tell a story. E-lit can take many different forms. One work of Electronic Literature that stuck out to us, was Mr. Plimpton's Revenge.
Mr. Plimpton's Revenge is a very unique type of literature. This is a type of electronic literature,
which is a evolving and popular literature that uses the powers and wonders of technology. The story is about a novice write named Dinty W. Moore and his numerous awkward encounters with a more experienced writer, Mr. Plimpton. Dinty tells the story from the future, recalling his early memories. He takes the reader along for a ride down memory lane in an interesting fashion. The story is written inside a Google Maps page, allowing to reader to explore inside various cities where the story took place. Stretching from Pittsburgh to Baltimore to New York City. This allows the reader to have a better understanding of the context and the culture of each scene. By using this form of electronic literature, it allows the reader to feel like they are inside the story. Dinty W. Moore takes the reader into his trials and tribulations of forming a relationship with Mr. Plimpton. The medium in which Mr. Plimpton's Revenge is written helps enhance the reader's experience.
The reader is able to be more involved in what they are reading and view locations from the story on the screen. By using Google Maps, the reader is able to zoom-in on the different locations where the story takes place. The reader is able to interact with the piece that they are reading. If the reader waned to, they could move the map by hand from the different places on the map. This would allow the reader to feel like they are going on this journey with Mr. Moore and Mr. Plimpton. This would not be possible if the literature was a more traditional piece of work. Dinty adds some distinct features to a linear piece of literature.
Throughout the story, their is a constant struggle for Dinty to form a relationship with Mr. Plimpton. He attempts to interact with Mr. Plimpton several times in order to make his presence known and to build a professional relationship. He also has a battle with his inner self, due to his lack of confidence and drug consumption. As the story goes on Dinty explains each and every on of his encounter with Mr. Plimpton. Dinty also adds his personal thoughts into the mix. At the end of the story the reader will be able to discover what Mr. Plimpton's Revenge is all about! Overall, this for of electronic literature is astounding due to the progression of technology allowing readers to travel with the characters to places like Pittsburgh, Baltimore and New York City.
E-Lit is a field that is constantly growing and changing. Literature today not only moves from print to electronic media, but is also increasingly born digital, which means, works are created explicitly for the networked computer. The Electronic Literature Collection (ELO), seeks to bring the literary workings of this network and the process-intensive aspects of literature into visibility.
The confrontation with technology at the level of creation is what distinguishes electronic literature from, for example, e-books, digitalized versions of print works and other products of print authors "going digital." The use of e-lit brings about so many new opportunities for writers to be creative and explore different ways of make reading fun for audiences of all ages!
